WASHINGTON, D.C., November 29, 2011
– The Lint Center, a non-profit charity, focused on supporting
the educational pursuits of the next generation of America’s
Counterintelligence and National Security Workers, today
formally announced that Josh Basquez was awarded the John Joseph
McGurk III Memorial Scholarship.
“I am very pleased to have been
awarded this scholarship award from the Lint Center for National
Security Studies,” said Josh Basquez, former U.S Navy Petty
Officer 2nd class and current undergraduate student at Oklahoma
State University at Tulsa. “The John Joseph McGurk III Memorial
Scholarship is dedicated to honor a great American and a former
member of the Armed Services and I share Mr. McGurk’s sense of
patriotism and service to fellow man. I believe strongly that I
will benefit greatly from the Lint Center’s mentoring program
and I am grateful for this tremendous opportunity.
“This scholarship award is dedicated
in memoriam to honor a loving father, a dedicated husband and a
great friend,” said John J. McGurk, the son of the late John
Joseph McGurk. “My father had a passion for knowledge and zest
for life which continues to serve as a testament to the
countless people he counseled and inspired during his lifetime.
On behalf of the entire McGurk family, we congratulate Josh
Basquez for his impressive scholarship application and we thank
the Lint Center for National Security Studies for further
enabling the legacy of my father’s positive impact.”
“The Lint Center felt that Josh
Basquez would be a strong fit for the Center’s scholarship and
mentoring program because of his background in Navy, his work at
the Defense Information Systems Agency, and his continued
studies at Oklahoma State University at Tulsa,” said James R.
Lint, Chairman of the Lint Center for National Security Studies.
“We were impressed with Josh’s application in its entirety and
thought his essay highlighting economic and military power
transitions in Central and South America was a strong reminder
that America cannot ignore its own backyard.”
